Working between memory and direct observation, Pennsylvania based painter, Anna Kline, makes work surrounding the reciprocal interactions between the body and the space it occupies. She is informed by Maurice Merlau-Ponty’s ontology of the flesh, the concept of the “flesh of the world and the flesh of the body together [comprising] the totality of Being”. Kline’s paintings transmute the self into the home, creating a personal landscape where the body is not its own isolated being, but is defined by its interactions with its experienced world.  

Kline received her BA in Art from St. Mary’s College of Maryland and is currently an MFA candidate in Painting and Drawing at The Ohio State University. She has also studied at Mt. Gretna School of Art and has been a resident at Mildred’s Lane. Kline’s work has been shown in both solo and group exhibitions across the Mid-Atlantic region.
