Marcia Armstrong is a local environmental artist whose land-based work explores relationships between humans and other living beings sharing space in urban landscapes. Her recent installation, Weaving Intersections, includes sculptures made of woven branches that float on a pond in the Columbus Metro Parks. These floating sculptures support native wetland plants, in an effort to call attention to ecosystem restoration on a broad scale while improving habitat and biodiversity on a local scale. This project grew out of Armstrong’s research with her Willow Archipelago installation on the Chadwick Arboretum pond, which was inspired by the buoyancy and resiliency of the water lily plant. Join the Living Art and Ecology Lab in welcoming local artist Marcia Armstrong to campus on March 6th to discuss her artistic practice.
