Hannah Parrett grew up on the southwestern edge of South Dakota. She received her BFA from the Maine College of Art in 2015, and her MFA from the Ohio State University the spring of 2020. The past four years she has exhibited locally in Columbus, OH where she currently lives. Most recently she was a part of an online exhibition ‘If, And, With’, a collaboration that explored the dissolution of systematic explorations of color with two other painters. In 2020 she was the recipient of the Alumni Grants for Graduate Research and Scholarship.
Her work explores a variety of abstract painting and sculptural processes. Two-dimensional work is intertwined with layered sculptural works of steel, fabric, and paper clay that evolve into what are termed ‘looking devices.’ Landscape, boundaries, and mapped-space, are subjects she explores to question what it means to be looked at, through, and into, as well as what it means to feel space, in ways that are both familiar and alienating.
