Renovations Update

NEWS AND NOTES FOR THE HOPKINS HALL RENOVATIONS PROJECT- Updated 12/11/11

This page will provide details and updates on the process for the construct and relocations of studios, labs and office within the Department of Art as we complete renovations in Hopkins Hall.

Please check back periodically as the information will be updated as the projects progress.

In September of 2011, the move back into Hopkins Hall began and the new Photography, Printmaking, and Art + Technology studios were brought on line. Work continues in these studios and in the other classrooms, offices and graduate studios located in the north wing as we work with the contractors to complete punch list items and some change order work.

During the months of December and January, some repairs to the new windows will be taking place. This should complete the window replacement phase of the project.

With the major work wrapping up in the north wing, the project now shifts to completing the HVAC, electrical, and plumbing upgrades to the west wing. Work will follow the phased plan (see attached) and changes to the timeline will be communicated to instructors and students. The phasing will take approximately 5,000 sq. ft. of space (or about 1/2 of the west wing) off line to install new ductwork, fire suppression and alarm systems, new lighting and electrical, painting. The phasing takes into account the teaching schedule and attempts to minimize the impact on scheduled classes.

The university has set aside swing space in Smith Labs; studios, classrooms, and offices will move into those spaces as needed.

The following PDF highlights the phasing plan. If you have any questions please contact Michael Hardesty or Sergio Soave.
