Winnie Sidharta

Winnie Sidharta was born in Indonesia. She received her BA in Visual Communication Design from Petra Christian University in 2004. She then studied at The Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, China where she received a diploma in Oil Painting in 2007. Since finishing her study, Winnie has pursued her art career by working as an artist, art teacher and independent designer for several publications and Individual works in China. Winnie explores the concept of narrative painting as a visual essay on her personal history, identity, tradition, and observation during her time living in China and Indonesia. Her artwork imposes the paradox between the ordinary and the surreal, the familiar and the otherworldly, the claustrophobic and the social. She fuses the contemporary ideas with traditional technique.
