Stephen Takacs is a first-year graduate student in the photography department at The Ohio State University. He received his BFA in photography at the Oregon College of Art and Craft where he developed his enthusiasm for alternative processes and object making. His recent body of work, titled Interceptions: Objects and Ambrotypes, is a culmination of these interests combined with a passion for photographic history and somewhat absurd humor. Interceptions centers around reimaging and reusing seemingly obsolete technology to create functional interactive optical devices: including an antique record player cabinet turned drawing device, titled The Victrola Obscura, and an ultra large format plate camera crafted from a broken copy camera and a 50’s era examination table.
