John Fergus Family Post-MFA Fellowship in Visual Arts at The Ohio State University

The Ohio State University Department of Art, through the generous support of the John Fergus Family Fund, established the Fergus Family Post-MFA Fellowship in the Visual Arts. We are thankful to the vision and generosity of the Elizabeth Fergus Jean and the Fergus Family in recognizing the need for such a dynamic and unique opportunity.
The John Fergus Family Post MFA Fellowship is focused on identifying and bringing to campus new perspectives approaches to art making. To accomplish this we search for artists who have completed their degree within a period of not more than three years. Also we extend search nationally and internationally and seek individuals who have not experiences the resources of this campus.
The program brings to our campus a diversity of talented artists working in any combination of the following genres: painting, photography, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, glass, and art & technology. The fellowship provides a stipend to support creative research and production while in residence at OSU.
Working closely with the Department of Art faculty, undergraduate, and graduate students the fellow utilizes the vast resources at Ohio State and in the City of Columbus. By providing this opportunity and resources of the campus, the residency period is intended to encourage creative exploration, discovery and development. In return, the fellow brings to the program, campus and community additional mentorship and professional development opportunities for art majors.
Past recipients of the John Fergus Family Post MFA Fellowship in Visual Art have used this opportunity to advance their creative practice and careers. The Department of Art at OSU is pleased to have been part of their professional and personal development.
CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR 2013-2014

The Ohio State University Department of Art is searching for two post-MFA fellows in the visual arts working in the areas of glass, printmaking, photography and sculpture. Artists working in hybrid practices that include these fields will also be considered.
The fellowship includes a stipend of up to $18,000 to support the individual while in residence at OSU. The length of the fellowship residency will be for two semesters (nine months) with the opportunity to continue use of the studio through the summer. Primary focus for the fellow will be the development and creation of artwork.
Fergus Family Fellows are provided private or semi private studio space and 24-hour access to the facilities. Fellows also have access to other facilities at OSU and borrowing privileges from the campus libraries. The fellowship concludes with a exhibition hosted by the Department of Art and public speaking presentation.
The fellow may be able to teach a maximum of one class per semester (two courses in total) in and receive a supplemental salary as an adjunct faculty member. Teaching assignments, while common, are not guaranteed and based on program need.
Artists who have just completed their MFA degree or who have completed their degree within a period of not more than three years (since 2010) prior to the date of application. Applications from international candidates will be considered. Former Ohio State University undergraduate and graduate students are ineligible to apply. We are searching for applicants that have not had the opportunity to experience the campus and resources at OSU. Your statement of intent should include specific reasons why you would like to be in residence at OSU.
