John Fergus Family Post-MFA Fellowship in Visual Arts

BACKGROUND
In 2006, The Ohio State University Department of Art, through the generous support of the John Fergus Family Fund, established the John Fergus Family Post-MFA Fellowship in the Visual Arts.

The Post-MFA Fellowship brings to campus new perspectives and approaches to making art. To do this, we seek applicants who have completed their graduate degrees within the past three years and have not previously been students of The Ohio State University.

The purpose of the fellowship is to further the artist’s creative exploration, discovery and development. Past recipients of Fergus Family Fellowships have used this opportunity to advance their creative practices and careers. In exchange, fellows provide our campus and surrounding Columbus community with additional mentoring and professional development opportunities.

The fellowship provides a stipend to support creative research and production within, across or beyond painting and drawing, photography, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, glass, art & technology and moving image. During their residency at Ohio State, fellows work closely with Department of Art students and faculty, and receive full access to all university resources.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR 2014-2015
The primary focus the John Fergus Family Post-MFA Fellowship in the Visual Arts is the development and creation of new artwork. For the academic year 2014-2015, The OSU Department of Art is searching for visual artists working in the areas of glass or printmaking. Artists working in hybrid practices that include these fields will also be considered.

The term of the fellowship is for nine months (two semesters) and includes an $18,000 stipend received in monthly payments. Fergus Family Fellows are also provided private or semi-private studio space, plus 24-hour access to Department of Art facilities. They also enjoy access to other university facilities including borrowing privileges from campus libraries.

Fellows may additionally be invited to teach a maximum of one class per semester (two courses in total) for which they receive a supplemental salary as adjunct faculty. But teaching assignments are based on program need and, while common, are not guaranteed. The fellowship will include a public speaking presentation and concludes with an exhibition hosted by the Department of Art.
