A new and ongoing focus has been placed on Honors and other capable undergraduate students through this growing program during the past 10 years. Undergraduate students with the potential and initiative and with two to four quarters remaining in their degree program propose research projects that will add intense and additional emphasis to their academic program. Students from all areas have participated in the Honors Program. One-on-one independent study with a faculty advisor for the usual two- to three-quarter effort is an attribute of the program, as is the quality of the resulting final exhibition, written thesis/report on the project, and the oral review by a three-faculty committee. Past participants from this 10-year period have completed graduate degree programs and have received further recognition for their work as artists and through teaching positions at other colleges and universities. For the past four years, students in this program have received top awards in the university-wide Undergraduate Research Forum.
Professor Charles Massey, Jr., coordinator of the Printmaking program and Associate Professor Laura Lisbon, coordinator of the Painting program, serve as the Honors and Undergraduate Research Advisors in the Department of Art at The Ohio State University.
