Graduate Application Procedure

Receipt of Application Deadline: Friday, January 6th, 2012

The application process for Graduate Studies in Art at OSU has two requirements:

  1. The Graduate School Admissions Requirements.
  2. Review of Supplemental Materials by the Department of Art.

Please Note:All components and requirements for the application must be completed and received by January 6th,2012 before a review of any materials sent with your application can take place.

I. Graduate School Admissions Requirements

The application process begins by completing an online application to the Graduate School: http://gradadmissions.osu.edu/

  1. A completed Graduate School Admission Application form must be completed online by January 6th, 2012.
  2. International students applying for funding must complete a Graduate School Admission Application form online by Monday, November 30th, 2011.
  3. Send one official transcript from each college/university you attended.
  4. If your cumulative GPA is below 3.0, the GRE exam must be taken and score submitted to the graduate school by January 6th, 2012.
  5. Pay the application fee.

GRE Requirements: If your cumulative undergraduate grade point average is below 3.0, you must take the GRE. If you attended an institution that used the Pass/Non-Pass system, you must also take a GRE.  You must have your scores forwarded to the Graduate Admissions Office or recorded on the Graduate School Admission Application. II. Department of Art Supplemental Materials Requirements
Once you have completed the Graduate School Admissions Requirements you will receive an Email from the Department of Art with instructions for uploading your Electronic Portfolio and completing your Supplemental Materials Requirements.
 
All supplemental materials must submitted by January 6th, 2012
 
1. Portfolio Requirements 
Your portfolio should demonstrate a formative & coherent body of work.  Applicants applying to the Department of Art enter through one of the seven studio disciplines with direct access to the entire Department of Art and to the larger resources of The Ohio State University campus. You may apply to a maximum of two studio disciplines.  
 
Electronic Portfolios must be submitted through our online portal no later than January 6th, 2012.
 
Submit 15-20 still images or 20 minutes of interactive or time-based work.
 
Images/videos can be labeled and ordered after they are uploaded into our Electronic Portfolio system. Arrange images in chronological order starting with your most recent work.  Each work sample must be labeled with the following information: title of work, medium, size, and date.
 
  1. Statement of Intent
    In less than 4500 characters (approximately one and one half pages) your written statement should address each of the following: What best describes the development of your current artistic practice? Why have you decided to apply to the MFA program in the Department of Art at OSU?  What are your professional goals as an artist?
  2. Curriculum Vitae or Résumé
    This document should accurately reflect your completed educational background and all of your professional and related experiences to date. Please be thorough and comprehensive, as your c.v. or résumé is critical in our determination of appropriate graduate assistantship, associateship, and fellowship assignments.
  3. Three letters of reference
    Three letters of recommendation need to be uploaded via our online portal.
  4. Official transcripts from each college/university attended
    This includes every higher education institution you attended, even if credits were transferred to another institution. Please upload a copy of your Official transcripts via our online portal.
